Biography

N. L. Gupta was born in 1937 in Punjab, India, into a generation that knew both the struggle of independence and the hope of a new nation. Over eight decades of living, he built a career in business, raised a family, and observed the full arc of human experience — the poverty of early India, the dignity of honest work, the complexity of relationships, and the quiet joys of a life lived with integrity.

He was not a professional writer. He was something rarer: a man who had genuinely lived, and who, at the age of 86, sat down to write everything he had learned — not for fame, but as a final gift to those who would come after him. Each of the 30 chapters draws from direct personal experience, woven together with ancient Hindi dohe, practical business wisdom, and a profound understanding of the human condition.

Covering themes as diverse as poverty and charity, love and loss, astrology and precaution, business integrity and the four pillars of happiness — the book is remarkable not for its literary ambition but for its honesty. Page after page, the reader feels they are sitting across from an elder who has no reason left to be anything other than completely truthful.

He completed the manuscript on April 6, 2023. He left for his heavenly abode on April 8, 2023 — two days later. The book is, therefore, literally his last act on this earth. That knowledge makes every page sacred.
